Todas as adopções começam com uma história de perda

«We ask for information about the children’s past, how they have found themselves here, why it is that they are likely to grow up in England with two white strangers. Desta tells us their history and I connect this heart-breaking story with the two tiny infants sleeping downstairs, I don’t know how to bear it. All adoption starts with loss is something I have known ever since we started on this path, but the abstract idea of loss feels a lot less horrifying than the real personal story that will put these children in my arms.»
